It’s All a Bit… Serendipitous
So, I hear you ask, why Serendipity Designs?
If you find good things without looking for them, serendipity — unexpected good luck — has brought them to you.
Unexpected good luck. You could say the entire business of Kraft Work Yarns is based on that very thing. A chance conversation with a new member of the knit and natter session in the original tiny shop. A chance to move into a larger premises. Within months we had a new shop and a business manager in Linda.
My sister-in-law, Karen, started joining me in the shop on a Saturday and took over the knit and natter sessions which in turn gave us our customer engagement manager and many weekly natter sessions. Aided of course by Sandra, our long-term volunteer.
As those of you that know me personally, my health hasn’t been the best these past couple of years and I’m not in the shop as much. I had started thinking about adding another member of staff to cover my absence and be flexible enough to stand in for any absences or holiday support. Around the same time, I was contacted by an old acquaintance looking for a complete change of career. Clare subsequently joined the team.

Our Lovely New Project Bags
That is what I consider a series of serendipitous moments, all leading to Kraft Work Yarns and its continued success. So how could I not christen the new arm of KWY as anything other than Serendipity Designs.
Speaking of designs, I don’t know if you’ve taken a look recently but there are lots of patterns available to download from the Serendipity Designs Shop and our Ravelry page. They will also be on sale at Kraft Work Yarns for those of you local to the shop.
Our First Yarn Show
Many of our patterns were on display recently at a yarn show in Port Sunlight, where Clare and her good friend Anne-Marie spread the word about our new side business. And, following the success of this launch into the world of yarn shows, we are hoping to sign up for more in 2027.
The summer holidays are done. I know this because as I sit here, the sky is a wonderful shade of blue, clouds are few, and there’s a gentle breeze moving the leaves on the trees. Weather always seems to have a last hurrah when pupils and staff return to school.
Days like this remind me of sitting in a baking hot maths classroom, gazing out of the window and watching the farmer harvest his fields. Fields which are now an established housing estate. In fact, the school has been knocked down and rebuilt since I walked its corridors. The mish-mash of old buildings has been replaced by a Borg Cube 😆.
The Four Seasons Collection: Winter Cowl
There are currently some seasonal winter designs in the works which we hope to roll out in October, but here is a sneak peek. Clare’s favourite colours are blues, and this combination lends itself perfectly to the cosy wintery designs.
In the meantime, do keep your eyes open for some samples on display in the shop. If a particular item catches your eye, just ask one of us. Samples are often available for purchase.
Autumn is undoubtedly the ultimate season for yarn shops.
As the temperature starts to drop, the sale of yarns turns from cool cottons to aran, chunky and super chunky.
Linda and Karen make sure we are well stocked with all your favourites and hopefully something new to tempt you. New yarns and patterns to fill those long dark evenings ahead.
Restock your stash, find a new box set to watch (listen to) while you craft, and settle in to enjoy the turning of the year.
There’s a warm welcome always waiting for you at Kraft Work Yarns.
